Promoting Word Study
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come,” (John 16:13 NIV).
The Holy Spirit speaks to guide us into specific knowledge designed exclusively for the individual in our specific situation and at our specific level of ability. Woosh! A mouth full…However…
Why Does the Holy Spirit speak? To parody a song to give us the Midas touch. So that it seems that everything we touch turns to gold. OK, I know that it sounds cliché and antisocial. The argument that we are just trying to use God to get something from Him comes to mind. However, the truth of the matter is:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit,” Romans 15:13 NIV The truth is:
“You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance,” Psalm 65:11 NIV
The Truth is: “He grants peace to your borders and satisfies you with the finest of wheat,” (Psalm 147:14).
So am I saying that we get everything we want when we trust in God or follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Yes! No. (No, that wasn’t a typo). The bible says:
“Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart,” Psalm 37:4 KJV Here is the no. When we, “delight ourselves” in the Lord by reading the bible, listening to the word, participating in a bible study, and spending time with others who are spending time with others who are doing the same thing; going to church, reading the bible and listening to the word. God changes our desires to match his own. So, do we get what we want “Yes.” Now this may remind you of mind control or puppeteering, but it happens to us every day. It is called wisdom. It is the difference between general knowledge the color of the sky is blue; and specific knowledge. The color spectrum that our eyes are able to perceive allow us to see the sky as blue. Finally, to exact knowledge for the individual (that is you). You don’t see the sky as blue go see a doctor, you are color-blind. “For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding,”(Proverbs 2:6 KJV).
